So, if both fans are at the same RPM, the 120mm should be pushing 8 times the CFM of the 60mm fan. Even if the fan blade tip speeds are equal (which means running the 120mm fan at half the RPM of the 60mm fan), it should push 4 times the CFM. Probably won't have time to do that till June or July though. The area of the 120mm fan is four times that of the 60mm fan. Should look nice, as I ordered a mnpctech billet aluminum 120mm fan grill for the blowhole.

I bought the fourth to eventually mount as a blowhole when I mod the top of the case to accept a 120mm fan in place of the 80mm. Although it is a sleeve bearing fan, it is a sleeve-bearing fixed-speed fan, it is sold for rads. It was provided for review not by the OEM but by Koolertek. I also bought some Acousti silicone polymer black fan mounts to mount the Yate Loons on the back of my case, so I will have to Dremel those as well. So heck with it, I decided to try the Yate Loons for myself. (I bought the AC thinking it had a rpm wire - after all, AC did include nice wire sleeving - but NO RPM WIRE! WTF!? However, I think someone with a really quiet system would definitely hear it, as I could still faintly hear the noise about a foot away with my system on.įrom my observations, the Yate Loon is clearly the superior fan, and it includes rpm monitoring as well. Such noise probably would be lost in my case, as I have two 80mm fans currently in my case (one on my V-1 VGA cooler and a blowhole fan) that would mask it. The AC fan at 7V quieted the airflow noise to about the level of the Yate Loon at 12V, however, a whole lot of motor "buzz" became very apparent up close to the fan (I did not hear anything like it at 12V). The Yate Loon at 7V (PC Probe: ~975 to 1000rpm) was very quiet indeed, the outer edge hum now only audible 2 to 3 inches away from my ear. I have several Zalman RC56 (7V) 3-pin pass-through connectors, so I hooked up each fan to one to further analyze them. Only 1 unit left The Yate Loon D12SM-12 is a high performance 120x120x25mm fan that pushes 62CFM at only 1800Rpm / 28.5dB. My apologies to Bobthelost, as I doubted him on another thread that manufacturer dba ratings are, for the most part, misleading. Interesting that a rated 24dba fan is louder than the 28dba rated Yate Loon. The AC fan (at a rated 1500rpm - no rpm wire) is quite a bit louder than the Yate Loon at 12V. Strong airflow and super-quiet operation speak for this 92mm axial fan with a bronze bearing.
